Data Systems Manager
Job Summary:
The Data Systems Manager oversees the data use, data fidelity, and delivery of information services in DSHA's Advancement Department. The Manager works to ensure overall data integrity in Raiser’s Edge (RE) & Blackbaud's education management portfolio for K-12 to realize the broadest and highest use of the databases by Advancement colleagues through cooperative development, design, and implementation efforts. Responsibilities also include process definition, policies and procedures development, and reporting. The Manager will work on the data team to assist in the overall integration of data between our two database systems. They will represent the Advancement database RE while collaborating with the Core side that supports the school’s student information system.
The Manager will also be responsible for using proactive strategic programs for prospect identification, rating and tracking, with an emphasis on collaborating closely with Development colleagues to help meet overall fundraising goals.

Responsibilities:
The Data Systems Manager oversees the data integrity efforts of the Advancement Department. This position is critical to the success of Advancement efforts, an environment that is driven by data and information. The Manager also remotely participates in other Advancement Department projects as deemed necessary to support the data, prospect, development goals of DSHA.
Database
- Works with staff members to ensure accuracy and integrity of the Advancement databases, including monitoring and troubleshooting data input\output. Informing the Senior Director of Development of data issues when necessary.
- Develop policies, procedures and timelines for coordinating the synching of data between Advancement databases and the school databases.
- Develop proactive strategies to constantly improve the integrity of the data in the Advancement databases, including the development of reports and statistics to monitor data accuracy.
- Work in collaboration with data leadership team to integrate DSHA’s major database systems (RE and Core) and trouble shoot integration problems throughout the year.
- Implement new software or data subscription services by maintaining schedules, verifying results and conferring with vendor as necessary. Oversee training of new software or data subscription services with Advancement team.
- Maintenance of database as needed.
- Monitor gift entry; ensuring that gifts are coded correctly according to fund, acknowledgement, campaign and appeal, and donor restrictions. Ensures gifts are in compliance with IRS rules and organizational standards.
- Maintain and implement standard monthly and year-end reporting procedures for reconciliation with the Business Office.
- Prepare comparative analyses of DSHA's fundraising performance including donor segmentation and acquisition trends and benchmarks.
- Create recognition lists for Annual Report.
- Develop parameters and formats for mailing lists, utilizing database coding structures to target and refine mailing lists.
- Provide initial and ongoing user training for Raiser’s Edge and MS Office including data entry, queries, exports and reports.
- Provide support for special events and other tasks as assigned.
Prospect Research
- Proactively analyze and evaluate data from a wide range of sources in order to identify prospects and his or her financial capability, philanthropic interests, and propensity to support DSHA
- Maintain technical proficiency in Internet-based search tools and other applications and programs to facilitate the collection, compilation, analysis and retention of research data; staying abreast of emerging trends, technological advances and best practices in the field of development research.
- Work closely and collaboratively with fundraisers as assigned to enrich Development's work in identifying, cultivating and soliciting prospects.
- Enter prospect research findings into existing or new constituent records in Raiser's Edge following data entry standards and coding structures which facilitate future reporting and donor segmentation requirements.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Position requires 3-5 years of work experience, with progressively responsible work with complex relational databases. Proficiency in information and database management is required. BA/BS degree is preferred, though extensive experience with Raiser’s Edge database management can offset this.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must possess a strong customer service orientation; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and interact effectively with a variety of people in a team emphasized environment. Must have a strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities as well as the ability to exercise independent initiative as appropriate.
Must be comfortable and effective with translating between end-users' needs and database output. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is required. Knowledge of Boost My School, ReceipterPro (DonorTek) and ThankView preferred.
Must possess excellent communication skills, including proficiency in editing, spelling and grammar.
Excellent project management and research skills and the ability to handle various special projects and meet multiple priorities under strict deadlines on an ongoing basis while addressing daily needs of the school is required. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work takes place in primarily an office/school environment.
