Custodian (Full-time, Year-round)

Job Summary:

Responsible for general cleaning and routine maintenance of school facilities. Perform event set ups as needed.  

Salary Range/Compensation:

Approx. $15-$21/hour based on experience, plus benefits package.

As soon as possible

Work Hours:

1:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Monday-Friday during the school year and 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. during the summer.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Completes general cleaning and routine maintenance of the classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, offices and public areas of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) to include scrubbing, waxing and buffing floors, vacuuming, cleaning, dusting, and discarding trash.
  • May work outside if needed, on basic maintenance or grounds duties.
  • Provides a timely response to trouble calls and diagnoses and remedies problems as requested.
  • Documents tasks as completed.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion and conforms with all DSHA quality and safety regulations. 
  • Assists with set-up responsibilities for special events.
  • Reports any unsafe operating conditions or practices to management.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Position requires a high school diploma or a GED and three to twelve months of experience in a custodial or maintenance role. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Effective oral communication skills are essential. Must be able to operate a floor scrubber and small hand and power tools.  Incumbent must be able to prioritize tasks as necessary and complete many tasks with differing deadlines.  Must be able to work independently. Incumbent should be able to work effectively with diverse populations. 

Protective Clothing Required:

No protective clothing or accessories is required on a regular basis; however, may need safety equipment if using chemicals.  Uniforms are required.

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.

The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: 

The work takes place in primarily an office/school environment; however, there is occasional exposure to outside elements with moderate noise when completing exterior maintenance or grounds work.
